New Orleans: Swamps, Food, Booze and All That Jazz

  1. Exploring the Enchanting Swamps and Vibrant Music Scene of New Orleans
  2. New Orleans: Swamps, Food, Booze and All That Jazz

With all the focus on AI at the moment I thought it would be fun to try and get ChatGPT to write my New Orleans blogpost for me. It didn’t quite capture the trip but made a good effort. You can read the AI version by following this link, and my version below:

New Orleans has been on my bucket list for a long time, I think what initially started the wish to go there was seeing the film Chef. After I moved to New York in 2014 it was an analytics team outing to go and see the film. It’s become one of my favourite films, with the music, food, and comedy a perfect formula. As I heard more about New Orleans it cemented its place on my bucket list.

  1. Exploring the Enchanting Swamps and Vibrant Music Scene of New Orleans
  2. New Orleans: Swamps, Food, Booze and All That Jazz

I wrote this blog post about New Orleans with the help of ChatGPT, which fed the itinerary to create the content. While trying to edit the tone, I realized that the initial version was the best one, so I decided to go with it. I did ask it to make two more edits after I input it into WordPress. The first was SEO tips, the second was to reduce the use of passive voice. To really push it, I use Dall:E to compose the images to go into the post. As a comparison, you can find my personal blog on New Orleans here.

During our recent visit to New Orleans, we had the chance to explore some of the city’s most famous attractions and activities, with a particular focus on the enchanting swamps and vibrant music scene. Our stay was at the Virgin Hotel, a modern and elegant property located in the heart of the city, providing us with the perfect base for our adventures.

Cartagena: The Great Escape

  1. Cerveza in Cartagena
  2. Cartagena: The Great Escape

All-inclusive beach resort or cultural city (with beach)? Danielle vs Sam. We wanted a mini New York getaway in the fall however the idea of what that getaway would be was less simple to decide. At somepoint the suggestion of Cartagena was raised, of recent blogging distinction (apparently) and growing in popularity. It offered sun, islands with beaches, a walled city with lots of history and culture to see. It ticked all the boxes, especially once we added in a boutique hotel with swimming pool.

Beers of Colombia, three of the BBC beers
Selection of Bogota Beer Company brews

Whenever I travel I try to taste the local brew and visiting breweries has almost become a go-to activity on travel. Had we been in Bogota when I discovered these Colombian beers from BBC (Bogota Beer Company), that would almost certainly have been added to the itinerary. As it was, a trip to Bogota was out of the question on this occasion, the beer was widely enough available though that I could get through most of the different brews during our time in Cartagena.

I Amsterdam sign

I Amsterdam Sign besides the Rijksmuseum

It feels a lot longer ago but back in April Danielle and I took a Euro trip to Amsterdam, Munich and Salzburg. Our plan was to pack light enough to rely on carry-ons, a plan proposed by the shoe addict. The only carry-on suitcase I had wasn’t going to be enough so I had acquired a new suitcase after some careful searching on the maximum dimensions for carry on. Sorted.

  7. What I didn’t tell you about the hike to Everest Base Camp! (The Outtakes)

Mount Everest from near Lukla, our last view of the mountainI’ve been back in New York for about 19 days now, more or less the same time I spent in Nepal. I’ve more or less finished editing my 3,000+ photos and now here’s the final part documenting the journey back from Everest Base Camp. A couple of things to keep an eye out for in the next few weeks – the photos from the trip, the highlights and outtakes of the trip and a few words on the last couple of days we spent in Kathmandu exploring some of the cultural sights in the city itself.

I can’t tell where the journey will end but I know where to start

A good place to start my second post will be to drop back to January where things really kicked off.

I had been aware of a potential opportunity in New York for a while thanks to Judy, my now manager in NY and ex-colleague from London, with her regular nudges about how great New York is. I had never taken the idea particularly seriously though – I loved London, enjoyed my job had a good bunch of friends etc.
