New Orleans: Swamps, Food, Booze and All That Jazz

  1. Exploring the Enchanting Swamps and Vibrant Music Scene of New Orleans
  2. New Orleans: Swamps, Food, Booze and All That Jazz

With all the focus on AI at the moment I thought it would be fun to try and get ChatGPT to write my New Orleans blogpost for me. It didn’t quite capture the trip but made a good effort. You can read the AI version by following this link, and my version below:

New Orleans has been on my bucket list for a long time, I think what initially started the wish to go there was seeing the film Chef. After I moved to New York in 2014 it was an analytics team outing to go and see the film. It’s become one of my favourite films, with the music, food, and comedy a perfect formula. As I heard more about New Orleans it cemented its place on my bucket list.

Exploring the Enchanting Swamps and Vibrant Music Scene of New Orleans

  1. Exploring the Enchanting Swamps and Vibrant Music Scene of New Orleans
  2. New Orleans: Swamps, Food, Booze and All That Jazz

I wrote this blog post about New Orleans with the help of ChatGPT, which fed the itinerary to create the content. While trying to edit the tone, I realized that the initial version was the best one, so I decided to go with it. I did ask it to make two more edits after I input it into WordPress. The first was SEO tips, the second was to reduce the use of passive voice. To really push it, I use Dall:E to compose the images to go into the post. As a comparison, you can find my personal blog on New Orleans here.

During our recent visit to New Orleans, we had the chance to explore some of the city’s most famous attractions and activities, with a particular focus on the enchanting swamps and vibrant music scene. Our stay was at the Virgin Hotel, a modern and elegant property located in the heart of the city, providing us with the perfect base for our adventures.

Twenty Nine Not Out

Walking in Berkshire, Lumineers, Work174 days. The number of days that have passed since I last posted a blog update. During that time, a lot has happened including turning twenty-nine. As I contemplate retirement and with it hearing aids, Zimmer frames and taking 10 minutes to usher food from my fork to my mouth, I felt it was the right time to prove I’m not completely gone by updating this blog.

(Better than Buzzfeed) Top 5 gigs seen in New York by an Englishman

Live music in New YorkI mentioned in my last post how I saw 43 bands last year, obviously a record I want to beat this year. While so far I’m not off to the best of starts – we’re now at the end of February and I have yet to get my gig on, I have just acquired Bruce Springsteen tickets for his last New York date on his current River tour (note I have a spare if you’re interested!). A couple of weeks ago I also stumbled on another impressive busking performance, a group called ‘Cover Story’. So, with gigs top of mind at the moment it seems like a good time to do a post on my top gigs in New York so far.

Summer and Simon in the city

Sam and Simon on rooftop

My first visitor, Simon. Chilling in Brooklyn on a rooftop near Prospect Park

After an extended time in the UK to allow for a trip to Dublin for Justin’s wedding I’m back in New York. While I was back in England I made the most of the time there by visiting as many people as I could. Given the visitors I’ve had in New York there was an element of feeling like the host turned guest. However I’m going to focus back on being the host and the visitors I’ve had.

While I was in the London office several people mentioned they read the blog (thank you!) but I also received some feedback. My posts are too long apparently. This is understandable feedback though, I’m not great at being succinct and my posts are generally a lot longer than 140 characters. The analytics for the blog also shows less than 50% of people are viewing over 50% of the page. To address this I’m going to write a mini series of posts for each visitor. This post will feature my first visitor..

A new drink for the old drunk

old passport

I’ve just been told to cut to the chase and start blogging about New York rather than events leading up to it.  However, I still feel there are some stories left to tell  and it’s the journey to New York that inspired me to start a blog. The point the people/persons made was that I should blog about New York while it’s fresh in my mind. Yet when people write autobiographies do they not recall historical events? You can also follow me on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram for ‘live’ updates while I finish blogging about how I got to New York.  Things should start to get interesting now though.

6 bands, 3 gigs, a church and an offer (or two)

photo-empire-stateBeing without internet in my apartment means I’m having to write this blogpost from the office, however I’ve got the pick of the meeting rooms so am able to sit in a comfortable chair with the window open and views of the Empire State Building it could be worse. Especially after having just watched Man Utd win their second match on tour. However I don’t want to jump ahead of time, so more on the situation at present in a later post.

Having expressed my interest to my manager of going for the New York job, I then had to formally tell HR I would like to apply for the position. From that point until I received my offer the situation was in New York and global recruitment departments hands.

So the next step was to speak to the global team about the role and steps required. While this was all happening in work the benefit of finally living where I wanted in the city was paying off.
